Babies at Work

omers standing in line. President Jim Kenny has said that the babies attract new customers, people who thought babies lightened up the banking business. Kathleen Sebelius, the Kansas insurance commissioner, stated People are nicer to each other if there is a baby around. Theres a sort of shared sensation that its a department baby, which contributes to company loyalty. Many women are now even actively looking for jobs that allow them to bring their baby to work with them.Some companies were worried about the cost to them, with allowing women to take a maternity leave and then bring their child to work with them, a possible distraction. Their solution is to ask women to take a shorter maternity leave. By doing this the company does not have to retain a temporary worker and pay the mother maternity leave. Mr. Kenny stated that a shorter maternity leave was an even trade for bringing a baby into work.With this new policy, companies have found a way to keep up with the changing times at almost no cost to themselves. This is an example of the material world having to catch up with the non-material world and thus prevent a cultural lag in this country. The material world being women having to work so they can make a decent living while the non-material world is women wanting to raise their own children. By combining the workplace with a childcare center, the non-material world has finally caught up with the material world. If the non-material world had never caught up to the material world, we would probably have more and more couples, that do make enough to support a family, remaining childless because they did not want to entrust others with the care of their children. Also because both parents can work and still raise their child they will have a greater family income which will result in a better education for the child and less of a chance of that child growing up to live in poverty.In conclusion, by allowing new parents to b...
