The contest were almost like the one shown in Men of Honor, however, there were no masks in the bar, instead they simply used tanks. Not many things were different in the movie than what really happened to Carl Brashear, most scenes came very close to reality, even the ones under water. In my research about the movie and Carl Brashears life I found that there was actually only one situation that was completely different. After the collision of two B52 bombers before Spains coast, nuclear bombs were lost. Carls job was to find one of the bombs that fell in the Mediterranean Sea. In this scene one can see Cuba Gooding Jr. at the ground of the Mediterranean in is duty to look for the bomb, suddenly facing a Russian submarine.
