The fox is used as the revealer of chanticleers hidden feelings by bringing out he fear in Chanticleer. Chaucer sets this all up to show the moral that one must not give into the vanity of dreams and they arent always a the true clear path in life. The Physicians Tale, tells of an honorable man named Virginous who live his life by honor and chastity that had one daughter whose beauty and honor are so great that not even a god could make another as pure as her.
