Pertelote symbolizes a woman who simply seeks a good man who is righteous and caring of her own needs but is also blinded by chanticleer physical beauty and settles with his lies and scapegoats to avoid being discovered as a true coward. The fox is used as the revealer of chanticleers hidden feelings by bringing out he fear in Chanticleer. Chaucer sets this all up to show the moral that one must not give into the vanity of dreams and they arent always a the true clear path in life. The Physicians Tale, tells of an honorable man named Virginous who live his life by honor and chastity that had one daughter whose beauty and honor are so great that not even a god could make another as pure as her. One day the judge of the town who is described by Chaucer as, This treacherous judge was so lost to shame. Chaucer makes him a corrupt figure of power that is willing to do anything to get his trophy. One day Appious sees Virginia at a temple and instantly gives into his lust and says, Ill have that girl whether I sink or swim! Chaucer makes him say that to show that he is a man that lives with out honor or chastity. Virginous is then accused of harboring a slave girl; the girl accused of this is Virginia. Forcing Virginous to give his daughter to Claudius, Virginious then goes home and tells his daughter, Virginia I must name the ways that lie, before you, death or shame.
