The Pax Romana

Although the Romans did not make any major literacy break thoughts that theGreeks had not already achieved, the Romans did keep the Greek style of writing alive, and is alsostill used today. The sheer size of the Roman Empire was not only present in the amount of land theyacquired for there empire, but the size of the empire was also connived through the strength andsize of the Roman buildings. A very large part of the architectural process was the size andconcept of the project. The Romans wanted to connive their size to everyone that saw theirbuildings. The Romans where terrific engineers and this showed in the completion of there greatbuildings. Many achievements in architecture were reached by the Romans during the PaxRomana. Not only was the Roman aqueducts built which are still in use today, the Flavinamphitheater or Roman Coliseum is still standing as a monument to the size and strength of theRoman Empire. It has stood over two thousand years. Like many other things that the Greeksinfluenced for the Romans, architecture was also one of them. The Romans adopted the treeorders of Greek architecture, the styles of Doric, Ionic and Corinthian.11 Not only did theRomans adopt theses styles they also created them into something more fitting for Rome, thuscreating a new Roman style of architecture. One major achievement for the Romans was thecreation of the amphitheaters. Amphitheaters held the Roman gladiola games, and chariot racesamong other great events. During the 100 day opening of the Coliseum in Rome ( the Fallopianamphitheater) over 1/3 of the Roman population attended. The Coliseum as well as otheramphitheater were built to hold great numbers of people. Even today every major sporting area isbased on this concept of the Roman amphitheater.
