Karl grew up under the constant torment of prejudices of his peers, which made him question the role of religion in society and helped fuel his desire for social reform. Begin Jewish by birth, German by citizenship and Christian by Baptism, offered many challenges to Marx. Because of this after attending high school, he could not secure a university appointment. The career he then sought to pursue was that of a radical journalist. His grand achievements in this, his new line of work, were awarded by the German government with deportation, later to also be awarded by the French and Belgian governments. He later settled in England, which did not deport him probably, because of plain English tolerance. The rest of his life he spent in poverty with his wife and kind in England. Do not believe that Marx did all this alone, for he had a companion of Friedrich Engles, whom with he published The Communist Manifesto. Although most economist tend to dismiss Marxist views as special pleading rather than investigation, many people such as Mao Ze Dong and Lennon have taken not only his economic policies, but social policies to heart as well.
