"Vengeance is mine says the lord" is another quotable bible phrase that points out that we as a human race do not have the authority to retaliate on any one for we are all guilty of murder, cause even a thought about something is wrong. Perhaps it is in the thinking that the correction needs to take place. "Just as the individual denies and represses the negative tendencies he does not want to accept in himself, society denies and institutionalizes the problems it does not want to face...everybody lives in a prison of reactivity - it is not just the criminal that is behind bars." (Ferrini 132). There must be a total overhaul in the ideology of the criminal justice system. [A criminal who strikes out at others feels he has no choice; give him another choice an he will not commit a crime.] (134) If the death penalty is not deterring crime, and abolishing it is not deterring crime, then perhaps we need to take a firm stand on a spiritual socialization process so the social structure will provide mediators (not secular judges) to help heal these wounds. The change will occur by not in enforcing a death penalty, but enforcing a right conduct with God. For if man is right with his creator and is given ample means to meet his needs, there would be no need for such punishments.
