ormal 12 cubic foot habitats the cruel nature of the experiment began to reveal enduring side effects. All of the rabbits developed a severe clouding of the eyes as well as edema and conjunctivitis. The horrific findings led the Food and Drug Administration in 1969 to order that any products containing Deet be issued warnings that exposure of the toxicant to the eyes can be damaging. Given the study was conducted 40 years ago precision equipment, such as the use of the computer was not readily available to process the data sufficiently. Since this was one of the first known studies of the product on application its findings could be either substantiated or refuted by similar investigations.A more detailed and elaborate documentation of the effects Deet can cause on the Human body was evaluated by Children’s Hospital of Denver Colorado in 1999. The study consisted of documenting the symptoms, healthy adult humans experienced when hospitalized due to applying Deet products with 30% or higher concentration of the product. The bulk of the patients studied were people that inhabited the area surrounding the Denver, Colorado metropolis. The study concluded that 13 of the 19 patients study developed severe encephalopathy that was causes DEET 8directly from a typical use of a Deet product containing more than 30% concentration of the toxicant. The study only involved those who sought medical attention for their use of the chemical.
